As a retired professional educator of 33 years I am grateful to now focus my energies and share my expertise to assist other educators become trauma sensitive. I believe my work as a consultant is to support others so they may best serve their students, families, and colleagues. My diverse work experiences as a former special education teacher, assistant principal, principal (elementary, middle & high school), and as a district administrator provide me a wide perspective, background knowledge, and a means to relate to other educators as they pursue professional learning. I thoroughly enjoy engaging with colleagues to share, collaborate and to acquire the benefit of others’ knowledge and experiences. I choose to work as a consultant because I believe professional learning and collaboration fuel us as practitioners and larger learning communities to bring us to a place where we can truly meet the needs of all our students. I am most fortunate to have joined the efforts of the National Council for Behavioral Health’s Trauma Sensitive School Initiative as an external consultant working with schools across the nation to help support their journeys to become trauma sensitive schools. Some of my most valuable experiences and lessons are those that come from my interactions with at risk youth whom I mentor as a life coach. We can make a difference in the lives of those around us and I believe that is a challenge worthy of our focused attention!
